ISLAMABAD  –  The Supreme Court of Pakistan will again conduct hearing of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s bail petition in the May 9 cases today.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and com-prising Justice Shafi Siddiqui and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb Tuesday heard Im-ran Khan’s appeal against the Lahore High Court order in the cases linked to May 9 may-hem.

At the onset of the proceeding, the Chief Justice asked the lawyer of Imran that you have filed some additional documents, which he could not read them. He, therefore, deferred the case for today.

Barrister Salman Safdar, counsel of Imran Khan, wanted to make submission but the Chief Justice told him that they will hear him on Wednesday, adding that the documents re-quired to be studied before hearing of case.

The bench on August 12 questioned whether the merit of the case could be touched by the Lahore High Court (LHC) in PTI founder’s post-arrest bail plea.

A division bench of LHC comprising Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi and Tariq Mahmood Bajwa had dismissed the incarcerated ex-premier’s bail petition last month, citing his al-leged involvement in planning attacks on military installations in anticipation of his arrest on May 9, 2023.

The LHC order noted that the prosecution had supplied evidence which reflected Imran’s role in the violence that broke out on May 9 following his arrest.

The bench reproduced the statements of two police officials and prosecution witnesses, who claimed to have se-cretly attended PTI’s meetings wherein Imran allegedly gave instructions to other leaders to attack military installations in case of his imminent arrest from the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
