CM Maryam orders full flood preparedness as Punjab faces intensifying monsoon

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz visited the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) headquarters and directed all departments to stay fully prepared as monsoon rains intensify across the province to safeguard lives and property.
During the visit, CM Maryam received a comprehensive briefing on the flood and rain situation in various regions.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia informed her about proactive safety measures, deployment of rescue equipment, and the operational status of early warning systems. She was also updated on flood preparedness and ongoing desilting work in critical areas.
Inspecting the early warning system herself, the chief minister reviewed evacuation procedures and was briefed on response timelines in case of rising water levels. Officials stressed the importance of swift action and community-level coordination to reduce disaster risks.
Maryam Nawaz was informed that district administrations have so far rescued 1,063 people stranded in flood-affected areas, with an average evacuation time of 23 minutes.
In Rawalpindi, six people were airlifted, while in Chakwal, 27 were rescued by helicopter and 182 saved by Rescue 1122 teams. In Jhelum, 160 people were evacuated via helicopter, 174 by Rescue 1122, and 64 by Pakistan Army personnel.
Appreciating the coordinated efforts of PDMA, Rescue 1122, district administrations, and the Pakistan Army, CM Maryam emphasised that every life is precious and timely, collective responses are vital. She instructed agencies to maintain high alert as Punjab faces more rains and possible flooding in the coming days.
